Global plastics recycling company MBA Polymers will open a facility in Germany to recover e-plastics from electronics and appliances.
MBA Polymers acquired a site in the German city of Mauna, which is near Dresden, and it plans to start processing scrap devices in 2020. It will handle over 38 million pounds per year of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE), producing recycled ABS, HIPS, PP and PC/ABS plastics.
It is MBA Polymers’ fifth recycling facility “using its patented process producing a state-of-the-art post-consumer plastic,” according to a company press release. MBA Polymers has other plants in Europe and Asia.
MBA Polymers was started over 25 years ago in California, but amid ownership changes, its presence has in recent years been more centered overseas. In 2017, the company’s operations in China and the U.K. were purchased by a German equity fund.
Meanwhile, in other European e-plastics news, a U.K. plastics recycling has boosted its ability to produce recycled PP and ABS from WEEE and shredded automobiles.
Plastics News Europe reports Axion Polymers added equipment to its Shredder Waste Advanced Processing plant (SWAPP), boosting capacity by up to 30%.
