Alberta twine recycling contest names 2026 winners

Cleanfarms, the agricultural recycling nonprofit that administers the Great Twine Round-Up, announced the four winners of Alberta’s 2026 contest, a five-month challenge encouraging farmers and 4-H clubs to collect used agricultural baler twine for recycling.

The contest received 76 entries from 17 participants, with each entry representing one bag of twine diverted from disposal or the environment. Collected material can be recycled into products including automotive parts and dimensional lumber.

The MTM Agricultural Society received the $3,000 individual-category prize, while the Rocky South 4-H Beef Club and Hanna Rangeland 4-H Multi Club each received $3,000 prizes. The Lethbridge Northern 4-H Beef Club won the contest’s $3,000 early-bird award.

The contest is part of the Alberta Ag-Plastic. Recycle It! pilot program, led by the Agricultural Plastics Recycling Group and funded by the Alberta government. Cleanfarms said the Great Twine Round-Up is expected to return in fall 2026.

Pellitteri expands waste, recycling services into Milwaukee area

Wisconsin-based Pellitteri Waste Systems has expanded into the Milwaukee market through the acquisition of Pink Dumpsters, a Milwaukee roll-off dumpster company.

The family-owned company Pellitteri will now offer 12-, 20- and 30-yard roll-off dumpsters, compactor sales and service, and on-site data destruction and secure document shredding services in the greater Milwaukee area. Pellitteri also said its industrial recycling services for manufacturers are now available in the region.

Pellitteri, which operates a material recovery facility in Madison, said it processed 205 million pounds of recyclable materials in 2025. The company said the expansion strengthens its presence across southern Wisconsin and broadens access to its waste and recycling services.

Canadian government awards funding to Guelph manufacturers amid tariff uncertainty

Three Guelph, Ontario, manufacturers will receive more than $2.1 million Canadian dollars ($1.5 million US) in federal funding through Canada’s Regional Tariff Response Initiative, which aims to strengthen domestic supply chains and help businesses respond to ongoing US tariffs.

Thermoplastic compression molding manufacturer Comoldco Corporation will receive $900,000 ($645,000 US) toward a new $3 million ($2.2 million US) manufacturing press at its Guelph facility. Scrap metal recycler Benmet Steel & Metal will receive $700,000 ($502,000 US) for a $1.4 million ($1 million US) facility upgrade, while molding manufacturer Poly-Nova will receive more than $530,000 ($380,000 US) to expand domestic tooling, testing and small-batch manufacturing.

Federal Minister Evan Solomon announced the investments July 29, saying the funding is intended to help Canadian companies remain competitive despite trade uncertainty. Solomon noted the federal contributions are matched by company investments, which he said demonstrate continued confidence in Canadian manufacturing.
