News on the closure of a PET reclaimer, the status of an Oregon EPR lawsuit, a new Florida MRF, a federal bill on recycling claims and battery fire impacts on insurance were the biggest news in February. Catch up on these stories below:

1 | Evergreen closing RPET plants in Ohio, New York

The Ohio-based company attributed the closure to the unexpected actions of a lender even as Evergreen was in talks with potential buyers.

2 | Court partially blocks Oregon EPR law, dismisses bulk of lawsuit

An Oregon federal court issued a limited injunction halting the state’s EPR law for members of NAW, but rejected the majority of claims.

3 | WM opens new $90m MRF in south Florida

The new facility is expected to process the most volume of recyclables in the hauler’s MRF network.

4 | Bipartisan reps introduce bill on recycling claims

Legislators introduced the Recycled Materials Attribution Act in the US House, drawing support from a new industry group and scrutiny from a plastics advocacy organization.

5 | Battery fire risk isn’t going away. Insurance is responding

In 2026, insurability may depend on how convincingly facilities can demonstrate they are both preventing ignition and limiting catastrophic loss when prevention fails.
