The report says more than 1.9 million short tons of PET bottles were collected and recycled in 2015. That is up 5 percent from 2014.
The collection rate for PET bottles in the European market is now 59 percent.
The report outlines the need for investment in the area of sorting, given that clear bottles are a smaller and smaller part of the stream – just 15 percent.
The report also provides an outlook for 2020, predicting the volume collected in the next few years will be more than 2.2 million tons. The expected collection rate will be over 60 percent.
