PetroChem Wire: Supply glut depresses prime PET prices

A prime PET oversupply has developed due to ample offers from U.S. PET producers as well as from distributors of imported packaging-grade PET.

This appears to be pressuring prices lower despite seasonal demand for PET beverage bottles.

Last week, spot bottle-grade PET was down a half cent per pound to 55.5 cents per pound railcar delivered. Packaging-grade PET was steady at 50 cents per pound delivered duty-paid to most U.S. ports.

Recycled PET in clear flake form from bottles and containers collected curbside was done at 40 cents per pound FOB Midwest.
