PetroChem Wire logoNylon 66 recycled resin prices are expected to trend higher following the news late last week that fiber maker Invista intends to discontinue nylon 66 production at a Tennessee plant.

The nylon 66 phaseout at the Chattanooga operation will occur during the remainder of 2016 and into 2017. Other businesses at the plant will not be affected, and the company said lost nylon 66 output would be offset with “investments” made at Invista plants in South Carolina and Ontario.

Meanwhile, nylon 66 post-industrial mixed-luster regrind was offered at the mid-50s cents-per-pound level (FOB U.S. South) at the end of last week. Nylon 66 lumps and chunks were offered at 20 cents per pound FOB U.S. South.
