Company tailors extruders to meet a facility’s needs
Coperion recently supplied extruders from its ZSK line to a German post-industrial scrap plastics processor called Aurora Kunststoffe.

German equipment supplier Coperion now produces a line of extruders made to be customized to a plastics recycling facility.

Coperion, based in Stuttgart, Germany, manufactures a variety of compounding and extrusion systems for the plastics recycling industry, as well as bulk handling systems, weighing systems and more.

Coperion’s ZSK 45 Mc18 twin screw extruders blend the ground plastic with additives, fillers and reinforcing materials. The mixture is also enhanced by Coperion’s ZS-EG twin screw side devolatilization units.

After the melt discharge stage, the plastic strands are conveyed to a strand pelletizer.

ā€œWhen recycling plastics, it is necessary to adapt the process parameters and recipes to the various raw materials,” said Norbert Büter, Coperion sales manager, in a release. “With their flexibility and high torques, ZSK twin screw extruders are optimally suited for processing even the most difficult raw materials to very good product quality – and they do it at throughputs that are economical.”

The machinery company recently supplied extruders from its ZSK line to a German post-industrial scrap plastics processor called Aurora Kunststoffe.

Aurora Kunststoffe processes a variety of plastics using the system, producing pellets of PP, PC, PC/ABS and more.

The company has used three ZSK twin screw extruders from Coperion since early 2019, and “with their high throughputs and their reliability, they have fulfilled every requirement that Aurora Kunststoffe needs for their innovative business plan,” the company stated in the release.

The Aurora Kunststoffe facility achieves throughputs of more than 1,400 pounds per hour per extruder. In all, the facility produces more than 50 tons per day of pellets.
