PCR supplied through a partnership between Avangard Innovative and Dow is now being used to create a 50% recycled-content shrink bundling film.
Film supplier INDEVCO Plastics announced that it is offering a 50% PCR film it developed in partnership with chemical and plastics producer Dow. The print-grade film, which is produced at INDEVCO’s plant in Longview, Texas, is used for bundling food and beverage products in multi-unit packages.
“In our partnership with Dow, we focused on the right resin selection, film thickness, and impact on the waste stream. The result is a high-performing collation shrink that not only meets the market requirements but also uses half the virgin resins and can be recycled and repurposed into other products,” Wayne Mashe, INDEVCO Plastics divisional general manager, stated in a press release.
Dow is supplying its “PCR-rich” LDPE resin for use in the film. That 70% post-consumer resin was first announced last fall. Dow sources the PCR from plastics reclaimer Avangard Innovative, which is based in the Houston area.
