PetroChem Wire: PET prices respond to high imports

Prices for prime and recycled PET rose last week after one major U.S. producer, DAK Americas, declared force majeure on PET resin shipments from its plant in the Carolinas on October 10 following the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew.

Prime PET was discussed on October 14 at 55 cents per pound railcar, delivered Chicago, up 1.5-2 cents per pound from the previous week. Clear rPET flake from curbside bottle collection was at 40-41 cents per pound FOB U.S. South the same day, up 4 cents per pound.

DAK produces PET resin and staple fiber at its Cooper River plant in Columbia, S.C. and PET resin and flake at its plant in Fayetteville, N.C.
