A report details a positive outlook for the plastic decking market, and the Olympic rings showcase more than just sportsmanship.

Composite decking on the rise: The plastic decking market is expected to grow by more than 10 percent in the next five years, according to ReportLinker. The market will reach $4.69 billion by 2021, analysts predict.

Plastic bag recycling: Just what happens to a plastic bag after it’s dropped off at a grocery store take-back program? Earth911.com describes the recycling process by talking to Novolex, which runs Bag-2-Bag, one of the largest take-back programs in the country.

Man crushed at recycling plant: A 56-year-old man died after he got stuck in between rollers at a Quebec recycling facility. CBC News says the worker climbed a ladder to remove a piece of plastic that was stuck between the two rollers. His hand got caught and he was pulled into the machine.

Fraud bust: California authorities arrested a truck driver they said was attempting to smuggle used beverage containers in from Arizona to be fraudulently redeemed. CalRecycle said the containers in a semi-truck driven by Julio Bolanos, 40, of Los Angeles, could have been worth $11,000 in illegal redemptions.

Recycled rings: The giant rings on Rio de Janeiro’s famous Copacabana beach aren’t just highlighting the Olympics – they are also showcasing recycling. Recycling International reports a Netherlands-based refillable bottle maker has supplied the giant recycled-content rings, which might also be used during the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
