Year starts slow for scrap plastics exports

Sector export figures for January 2016 show a drop of just under 4 percent when compared with January 2015 levels.

In January, the most recent month for which figures are available, scrap plastics exports totaled 265.79 million pounds, a decrease of 13.0 percent from export levels for the previous month, December 2015.

When matched against January 2015 levels, the volume of plastic scrap exports in the month was also down, by 3.9 percent.

The weighted price of recovered plastic exports in January 2016 was 17.0 cents per pound, up 3.9 percent from its December 2015 standing. However, that price-per-pound figure for January 2016 was down 12.7 percent from the price level in January 2015.
