Assurant has expanded its automation toolkit with the acquisition of OptoFidelity’s mobile device testing portfolio, a move the company said will accelerate diagnostics and raise refurbishment capacity across its global Device Care Centers.

The announcement framed the purchase as a strategic investment that enhances efficiency, speeds delivery and creates more value for partners. Assurant said full integration of OptoFidelity’s systems will help increase reuse and resale of higher value devices in certified pre-owned channels.

“Speed and accuracy are critical in device processing, repair, and refurbishment. With the seamless integration of OptoFidelity’s mobile device test automation technology, we can re-purpose a greater volume of devices, with enhanced precision and efficiency, all in-house,” said Brandon Johnson, SVP of supply chain at Assurant. “As the certified ore-owned device market rapidly grows, this acquisition positions us to meet rising demand, uphold our high-quality standards, and drive greater circularity by reusing devices from trade-in and other sources for our partners.”

Assurant said OptoFidelity’s modular testing platform adapts to changes in production volumes and test needs while keeping results consistent across iOS and Android devices. The company said the technology supports scale as refurbishment programs grow and that the acquisition supports its larger plan to automate key steps in device processing.

Assurant added that the purchase is another step in its roadmap for automation and robotics at Device Care Centers. The company said the integrated systems are intended to help deliver rigorously tested certified pre-owned devices at a high units-per-hour rate.

Founded in 2005, OptoFidelity produces automated mobile device testing systems and highlights precision, repeatability and traceability in its product line. The company has delivered more than 9,000 test systems to carriers, manufacturers and retailers. Assurant said the testing portfolio strengthens its Connected Living strategy and adds room for growth.

The company said it will collaborate with FutureDial, described as the leading customer of the acquired technology, to support existing and new users. The companies plan to coordinate on deployment and service for clients that integrate the systems into processing lines.

The acquisition highlights how testing automation shapes value in electronics recovery since throughput, accuracy and consistent grading influence resale outcomes. Companies that can scale diagnostics, integrate with trade-in intake and shorten cycle times can capture more value while supplying partners that require uniform quality across large batches of devices.
