March 30

eFACTOR3 is partnering with engineering design firm Broadview Group, to expand access to Rotary Impact Separator (RIS) mechanical recycling technology.

UK-based Reconomy is acquiring North Carolina’s Waste Disposal Solutions, with customers in construction, logistics and manufacturing. Reconomy also recently joined ReHubs, an alliance working to accelerate textile recycling in Europe.

March 24

The Oregon DEQ is accepting applications for $2 million in grant funding from its Reduce, Reuse, Reimagine Grant program, through April 30. 

March 23

Carpet America Recovery Effort (CARE) coordinated recycling of the red carpet used in the 2026 Academy Awards ceremony. 

International Paper plans to build a new $225 million sustainable packaging facility in Mississippi, with construction expected to begin in June and startup in fourth-quarter 2027.

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency is offering about $250,000 in grant funding to help the state’s entities reuse materials to reduce waste and reduce toxic chemicals in hair products. 

NH Recycles has selected Andrea Folson to succeed Reagan Bissonnette as executive director, effective May 18.

The Recycled Materials Association (ReMA) held its 2026 Congressional Fly-in Feb. 10, with more than 120 recyclers traveling to Capitol Hill to meet with lawmakers and legislative staff.

March 11

A recent study from Concordia University in Quebec found that for several UK municipalities, those with less frequent garbage collection had higher recycling rates, sorting and collection frequency for recyclables, but did not affect recycling rates, and weekly food waste collection significantly increased recycling rates.

Aluminum roller and recycler Novelis received the MĂĽnchner Management Kolloquium Award of Excellence for its aluminum sheet made with 100% end-of-life vehicle scrap, specifically developed for use in exterior car body applications.

Project STOP, co-founded by Borealis and Systemiq, along with scale-up partner Clean Rivers, expanded access to affordable, end-to-end waste management services to 772,485 people in Indonesia in 2025, higher by 200,000 people on the year.

Altamont Capital is investing in Rhode Island-based corrugated box manufacturer Key Container to support expansion. 

Smurfit Westrock bought Ecuador corrugated packager CortomanabĂ­, which has more than 50,000 tons of production capacity in the agriculture, protein, FMCG and industrial markets.

Circular Arizona has named its 2026 board of directors.

The Washington Department of Ecology confirmed producer responsibility organization (PRO) Interchange 360 to operate an Alternative Collection Program (ACP) for lubricant, petroleum and automotive packaging under the state’s EPR legislation.

The Can Manufacturers Institute (CMI) and the Household & Commercial Products Association (HCPA) recently published a playbook developed by RTI Innovation Advisors to help MRFs navigate aerosol acceptance. 

March 3

The Illinois Circularity Conference Planning Committee extended the deadline to March 10 for submitting session abstracts.

The Indiana Department of Environmental Management extended the deadline for applications and nominations for the 2026 Governor’s Awards for Environmental Excellence by a week, to March 13. 

On April 15, the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) will begin accepting applications for its 2026 Reduce, Reuse, Repair Micro-Grant Program.

Meridian Waste opened its 7th Annual Brightening the World Earth Day Coloring Contest. 

The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) is launching a Battery Circularity Program to improve how batteries are collected, recycled and reprocessed across the state. 

NH Recycles published a how-to guide for applying for Congressionally Directed Spending funds, or “earmarks.”

EPR legislation in Wisconsin failed to advance, when the state Assembly completed its session in late February.

Epoch Biodesign closed a $12 million funding round, including investment from leisure apparel brand Lululemon, to help commercialize recycling of nylon 6,6. 

The European Commission published guidance and FAQs on compliance with the sweeping Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) ahead of the Aug. 12 implementation.

March 25

European plastic recycling platform GreenDot acquired two mechanical film recycling plants in France operated by RG Group.

March 23

ALPLA opened its first Filipino plant, where it produces containers, bottles and closures on four lines, with the potential for five more.

Circularise published a case study on using traceability and digital product passports to support circular plastics across toys, home appliances and textiles.

Closed Loop Partners‘ Center for the Circular Economy released a report on recovering prescription medication bottles. 

Spain’s Sulayr Recycling and Tomra collaborated on PET thermoform sorting to advance tray-to-tray recycling.

TotalEnergies and Plastic Energy began production at France’s first chemical recycling plant, at its Grandputs site southeast of Paris. 

The Vinyl Institute relaunched its online recycling directory, where users can search for collection points by location and product type. 

March 19

The California Environmental Protection Agency released a report on the safety of recycled rubber use in sports surfaces. 

EREMA and the All India Plastics Manufacturers Association launched a new Recycling Skill Center in Mumbai, for training in plastics recycling.  

The Independent Lubricant Manufacturers Association (ILMA) filed suit against Colorado’s EPR law for packaging, complaining that PROs Lubricant Packaging Management Association and Circular Action Alliance are led by competitors, among other claims. 

March 16

Finnish energy company Neste will ramp up production of its new chemical recycling plant in Porvoo, which it bills as the world’s largest liquefied plastic waste upgrading facility, with capacity of up to 150,000 metric tons of LWP annually.

March 11

The Foodservice Packaging Institute’s Foam Recycling Coalition is accepting applications for grants of up to $50,000 to expand EPS foam recycling, through April 17.

Global automotive supplier Minth Group plans to spend $430 million to turn a former steelmaking site in Gadsden, Alabama, into its largest production facility for plastic and aluminum automotive components.

March 10

Austrian packager Alpla and circular logistics firm Vida Circular launched a Mexico recycling initiative to capture more than 200,000 plastic bottles annually. Alpla also has global partnerships including Envicco in Thailand to create closed-loop recycling for HDPE bottles.  

Coca-Cola and bottling company Bepensa Dominicana are partnering to reinforce collection and recovery for beverage containers in the Dominican Republic, furthering their work in Latin America. 

Envision Plastics and PakTech were featured in a video from the Plastics Industry Association highlighting how recycling works in practice. 

Plastic film recycler Repeats Northern Europe has been declared bankrupt by a Dutch court. 

March 9

Plastic Ingenuity is acquiring German thermoformer Spezi-Pack to expand its offerings in medical device and pharmaceutical packaging.

ProAmpac completed its acquisition of TC Transcontinental‘s flexible packaging business.

March 5

Europe’s RecyClass published its first sector-specific Design for Recycling Guidelines for automotive and electrical & electronic equipment (EEE), covering vehicles, refrigerators and small appliances.

March 3

Injection molding system manufacturer Husky appointed Robert Domodossola as its new president and CEO, succeeding Bradley Selleck.

Mobile phone recycler EcoATM launched a technology update for its retail kiosks, including an updated driver’s license reader, label printer, safe door assembly and bin flap, to help enable consumers to complete a transaction in under 7 minutes.  

March 23

Recycler One and One Green Technologies plans to source and process industrial materials including electronic sludge, copper mud and nickel mud from local electronics and plating manufacturers. 

March 18

Assurant reported that US consumers received more than $6.4 billion in value through mobile trade‑in programs in 2025.

Metallium Ltd. announced that progress at its Gator Point Technology Campus in Chambers County, Texas is rapidly advancing.

One Green Technologies will strategically enter into the Greater Manila Area’s e-scrap resource recovery market.

March 10

British metals processor DEScycle and Mitsubishi are partnering to advance recovery of critical metals from discarded electronics in Japan. 

Philippines-based recycler One and One Green Technologies completed a technology and equipment upgrade at its San Rafael facility, with advanced processing capabilities especially for recycling printed circuit boards (PCBs).

S&P Global published a report on “Copper in the Age of AI: Challenges of Electrification.”

REalloys Inc. announced that the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) awarded a contract to Terves LLC to scale next-generation metallothermal processes for Samarium (Sm) and Gadolinium (Gd) metals.

Laid-off USAID workers donated their government-issued laptops and mobile phones to World Computer Exchange, a nonprofit working to expand digital access.
