Our top stories from August 2023

Our most-read list last month was dominated by stories about data center decommissioning plants and ITAD market sentiment.

The list below shows our top stories published in August in terms of unique page views.

1 | Amazon affiliate to open data center recycling facility

One of Amazon’s subsidiaries is planning a 550,000-square-foot data center decommissioning facility in Pennsylvania, slated to come on-line in spring of 2024.

2 | TES to open hyperscale-focused plant in Virginia

TES is opening a facility in Virginia to decommission hyperscale data centers, part of the ITAD company’s strategy to benefit from the continuing transition of computing power from individual devices to the cloud.

3 | Research explores reasons for tough ITAD conditions

A number of market factors squeezed the ITAD industry earlier this year, including high costs of labor and lower secondary market prices, according to a first-of-its-kind survey.

4 | Survey: ITAD leaders optimistic about improving markets

Likely hesitant due to difficult markets in the first quarter, ITAD industry players were fairly conservative in their capital expenditures early this year. But company leaders foresee bigger spending ahead, according to a new survey.

5 | Insights from Iron Mountain, Envela financial disclosures

Low prices for electronic components continue to dampen Iron Mountain’s data center decommissioning business. Meanwhile, a group of ITAD and e-scrap companies boosted their profit margins even amid a slowdown in business.
