An OEM is working with ITAD firm PlanITROI to launch a trade-in initiative that pays consumers based on estimated computer resale values.

New Jersey-based PlanITROI and Acer America announced the trade-in program, through which consumers will automatically receive a $100-off coupon when they ship their used computers to PlanITROI. If the processor determines those electronics are remarketable, then the consumer will receive payment based on the estimated resale value.

According to a press release, U.S. consumers can ship any brand of used laptop to receive the coupon for $100 off the price of the Aspire Vero. The Vero model is a laptop made with 30% post-consumer plastic resin (PCR) in the chassis and 50% PCR on the keyboard caps.

If PlanITROI is able to refurbish and resell the laptop, then the consumer will be mailed a check based on the value; if not, the consumer can choose to have PlanITROI recycle or send the device back to the consumer.

“We are pleased to continue our long-standing partnership with Acer, as their partner for Acer Recertified products, to continue our sustainability focus on reuse initiatives,” Paul Baum, founder and CEO of PlanITROI, told E-Scrap News. “Acer and PlanITROI want to incentivize users to trade-in their excess and idle computing with a generous offer towards the purchase of Acer’s eco-friendly laptop. This continues the circular economy once again by offering the fully refurbished and recertified trade-ins now as affordable technology.”
