News from DAK Americas, PureCycle and more

in Industry Announcements

Aquafil released its 2020 sustainability report, which includes details on the company’s carpet and aquaculture net recycling initiatives.

DAK Americas parent company Alpek reported it will begin production at the former CarbonLite PET recycling facility during the third quarter of 2021. DAK acquired the Pennsylvania facility earlier this year, after CarbonLite filed for bankruptcy.

How2Recycle announced it is downgrading the recyclability of rigid polystyrene packaging and rigid black plastic packaging, meaning those materials will be labeled “not yet recyclable” rather than instructing the consumer to check locally for recycling availability.

PVC-focused plastics recycling company JP Industrial Products acquired Troy Polymer, a plastics recycling operation located in Troy, N.C. The North Carolina operation will be rebranded as JPI Troy.

Social enterprise Plastic Bank collected a record 10 million plastic bottles, equivalent to about 4.4 million pounds of plastic, in June 2021.

PolyQuest announced that Ryan Nettles and Brad Willingham have been promoted to senior vice presidents.

PP recycling startup PureCycle announced a deal to build a plant in Georgia. PureCycle also announced a partnership with Gulfspan Industrial to “build and reserve construction space in Beaumont, Texas for the fabrication of modular processing lines.”

Schupan & Sons hired Sheila Lipsey as vice president of human resources.

Sonoco released its annual corporate responsibility report, offering several updates on the company’s recycling activities.
