News from Beyond Plastics, Brightmark and more

The advocacy group Beyond Plastics released a report comparing the greenhouse gas (GHG) impacts of plastic production, usage and disposal to coal-fired power plants. 

Brightmark published the results of a life cycle analysis (LCA) of its pyrolysis process, with data collection by the Georgia Institute of Technology with analysis by Environmental Clarity, Inc.

The Global Alliance for Incinerator Alternatives (GAIA) published an analysis that finds that over a quarter of countries’ climate plans are neglecting waste reduction, despite the fact that the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) identified waste management as one of three sectors with the greatest potential to reduce temperature rise in the next 10-20 years.

Indorama Ventures published its 10th annual sustainability report and video, noting the company’s PET recycling capacity grew from 3,576 tons a year in 2011 to over 330,00 tons annually during the second quarter of this year. 

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) Group Lab committed a $4 million investment, to be managed by Closed Loop Partners, to tackle marine plastics generation in Latin America and the Caribbean. 

Neste and Ravago formed a joint venture to use a chemical recycling facility in the Netherlands. 

The Northeast Recycling Council (NERC) scheduled its first diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) training for Dec. 9. The online event will include speakers from Schnitzer Steel and the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI).
