PetroChem Wire: Supply glut depresses prime PET prices

PetroChem Wire: Recycled HDPE loses pricing ground in 2015

A prime PET oversupply has developed due to ample offers from U.S. PET producers as well as from distributors of imported packaging-grade PET.

This appears to be pressuring prices lower despite seasonal demand for PET beverage bottles.

Last week, spot bottle-grade PET was down a half cent per pound to 55.5 cents per pound railcar delivered. Packaging-grade PET was steady at 50 cents per pound delivered duty-paid to most U.S. ports.

Recycled PET in clear flake form from bottles and containers collected curbside was done at 40 cents per pound FOB Midwest.

For a free trial to PCW’s Weekly Recycled Plastics Report, Weekly PVC & Pipe Report or Daily report on prime resins monomers and NGLs, visit the PetroChem Wire website at petrochemwire.com. You can also contact Cindy Bryan at [email protected] or 713-385-1407.
