Conference cancelled: Tuesday’s terrorist attacks in Brussels have prompted the cancellation of the Plastics Recycling Show Europe (PRS Europe), show organizer Crain Communications Inc. UK announced. The March 22-23 show was cancelled after bombings on March 22 at the airport and in the metro system killed at least 30 people and wounded about 230 more, prompting authorities to shut down public transportation systems. The PRS Europe show was originally scheduled for late November but was cancelled because of a Brussels-wide manhunt for suspects related to the Paris terrorist attacks.
Bag collections: A plastic bag collection program in New Zealand’s Countdown grocery stores has collected more than 1 metric ton of film since the program started last November. According to scoop.co.nz, the 10 participating stores in the Auckland area found the program a success, so the grocery chain is expanding collections elsewhere.
Growth forecast: Europe has nearly 1,200 active plastic sorting and recycling facilities, but more will be needed as recycling evolves, according to a report from Research and Markets. By 2025, up to 300 new plants with an estimated capacity of 5.2 million tons will be commissioned, the report states.
