Plastics-to-fuel group adds member, changes name

The renamed Plastics-to-Fuel and Petrochemistry Alliance (PFPA) has added a new member to the growing group.

Formerly the Plastics-to-Oil Technologies Alliance, the PFPA moved to change its name to reflect the fact that the group’s members produced a variety of different end products, rather than just oil.

“The name change broadens the channel,” said Michael Dungan, chairman of the PFPA and director of sales and marketing for RES Polyflow in an interview with Plastics Recycling Update, “as group members do more than just make oil from non-recycled plastic fractions.”

The products made by PFPA members include liquid fuels such as diesel, naphtha and crude oil for conversion to fuels or chemicals, as well as waxes, lubricants and other products.

The group also announced its newest member, Cleveland-based Vadxx, joining Agilyx from Tigard, Ore.; London-based Cynar Plc; and RES Polyflow, from Akron, Ohio, as core member technology providers for the PFPA. The global group also has three associate members: Elmwood Park, N.J.-headquartered Sealed Air; Americas Styrenics from The Woodlands, Texas; and Tetra Tech, based in Pasadena, Calif.

“Vadxx is excited to join the Alliance and participate in its work to educate policymakers, communities and others about the important benefits of these new technologies,” said Vadxx CEO Jim Garrett in a press release announcing the company’s addition to the PFPA.

“We’re seeing a better acceptance of the technology to the marketplace as complements of existing recycling infrastructure,” says Dungan. “More businesses, governments and communities are looking to value creation as a new paradigm for managing non-recycled plastics. The diverse and expanding group of technologies available to convert non-recycled plastics into fuels and other valuable products provides a range of solutions to help communities sustainably manage more of our post-use resources.”
