Compudopt names new CEO

Houston-based nonprofit Compudopt has named Allison Katarski its next CEO as the organization looks to continue a recent growth surge.

Katarski had been serving as the COO for the Houston-based organization, which collects used electronic devices, refurbishes them and redistributes them in underserved communities. She will replace Megan Stickley, who’s leaving effective August 1.

“Our staff, board and partners are poised to expand technology access and education faster and wider than ever before, all while accelerating sustainability efforts,” Katarski said. “There is tremendous opportunity ahead, and I’m grateful for the organization’s trust in me to bring the next phase to fruition.”

Compudopt has already created a lot of opportunities thus far in 2026. The organization reported helping more than 56,000 people nationwide in the first half of the year. Compudopt distributed 12,712 no-cost computers, connected 852 households to low-cost internet and recycled 111,618 pounds of e-scrap through its ITAD program (while processing another 85,905 pounds). The organization set out to help 150,000 people this year through these means, as well as educational programming it provides.

The organization also expanded its partnership with AT&T earlier this year, accepting donated devices from more than 200 retail stores. Program designers aim to collect more than 20,000 pounds of used devices per year. A similar arrangement exists with retailer Micro Center.

Compudopt is coming off a record-breaking 2025 during which it distributed 41,970 free computers and connected 10,277 homes to low-cost internet. Last year, Compudopt also wrapped up a multi-year partnership with Santander US that saw Compudopt parlay a $7 million Santander investment into more than $70 million, which it used to expand services to more than 60 cities.

“Allison’s proven track record, combined with her deep passion for the mission and team, will only build upon the current momentum,” said Genesis Draper, who chaired Compudopt’s executive search committee.

Katarski will play a role in bringing to fruition Compudopt’s Vision 2030 strategic plan, which calls for more diversified funding, centralized internal systems, AI planning and integration, and responsive programming that’s relevant to individual markets.

Compudopt also named Heloise Ahoure vice president of development and Stephan Haskin vice president of internal systems.

Steckly was hired as CEO in 2015 and helped expand Compudopt’s reach to more than 1 million people. The organization was founded in 2007.
