A new collaboration between Every Can Counts and Open Water at Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California is bringing aluminum can recycling to the forefront for event attendees.
A display featuring more than 1,200 empty Open Water containers in a Los Angeles Clippers-themed recycling cage is highlighting the value of recycling used cans at the arena with the goal of “shooting for sustainability.”
Tim Ebner, VP of marketing and communications at Can Manufacturers Institute, said the organization is “thrilled” about the partnership and discussed the intended impact of the display.
“The Every Can Counts recycling cage will inspire people to recycle by highlighting the sustainability success of aluminum beverage cans,” he said. “Used beverage cans are easily recyclable, moving on average from the recycling bin to newly formed cans in less than 60 days, and they are a circular solution.”
Ebner added that 97% of domestically recycled beverage cans go back into the system as new cans. The fabricated cage for the display was built in California, bringing the local aspect of sustainability to the project.
“Intuit Dome is redefining what sustainability can look like in professional sports venues, and we couldn’t be more excited to partner with Every Can Counts to celebrate these efforts,” commented Niki Mazaroli, director of sustainability and community engagement at Open Water, in a statement.
In December, Every Can Counts commissioned a study examining the effectiveness of deposit return systems, saying they can help bridge an “awareness gap” between consumer behavior and recycling progress, particularly for beverage cans.
