ITAD firm doubles capacity in Southeast US

Processor EPC has combined the business operations of two U.S. facilities into a single South Carolina location, which has a footprint twice the size of the previous sites put together.

St. Louis-headquartered EPC, the IT asset disposition subsidiary of global device leasing company CSI Leasing, on Jan. 16 announced it has opened a 205,000-square-foot processing location in Columbia, S.C. The facility will handle business that previously went to a 64,000-square-foot Atlanta site and a 30,000-square-foot separate location in Columbia, S.C.

The new facility, which the company anticipates will have more than 100 employees, was fully functional beginning Dec. 1, 2023, said Rachel Fick, senior vice president of global marketing for CSI.

“Once fully staffed, the new facility will be able to handle twice the amount of assets compared to the other two facilities combined,” Fick told E-Scrap News.

In announcing the facility, EPC said the shift and growth is a response to “an increase in overall volume, along with a higher demand for ITAD services, such as warehousing, staging, imaging, redeployment, data destruction and recycling.” Those services are in rising demand for both devices leased by CSI and non-leased devices EPC handles.

When EPC opened the Atlanta site in 2019, it was the company’s largest facility outside of Missouri. The substantially larger new site comes after five years marked by rapid expansion, both with new facilities in the U.S. and numerous sites globally. Its global footprint includes facilities it owns, as well as a group of partnering facilities it calls its “vendor network.”

The company got its start as a computer retailer in 1984, entered the used device resale market in the mid-1990s and was acquired by CSI in 1998.
