The REMADE Institute announced $4.86 million in new technology research from the US Department of Energy following the agency’s initial $140 million investment.

Ardagh Group, recycled aluminum and glass packaging manufacturer, published its 2025 Sustainability Report. 

July 17

French startup Syntetica raised $30 million in Series A funding to develop its nylon textile recycling process, with investors including lululemon.

The Southeast Recycling Conference is accepting abstracts through Nov. 6 for sessions during the Feb. 16-19, 2027, event in Destin, Florida.

Wisconsin’s Pellitteri Waste Systems was named Family Business of the Year by In Business Madison magazine.

Crown Holdings released its climate transition plan and sustainability report.

Graphic Packaging entered the uncoated recycled paperboard market with its launch of PaceSetter Ridgeline, using 100% recycled fiber.

Reworld launched operations at a new United Dumpsters transfer station in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to help direct materials to its Indianapolis thermochemical treatment facility.

A report from analytics firm Smithers forecasts that by 2045 fiber-based packaging will account for 42% of all food packaging materials, from 37% today.

Casella Waste Systems named Damian Ribar, formerly of Waste Connections, as COO effective July 20.

Smithers released the “Future of Corrugated Packaging to 2030” report, forecasting that the sector will return to modest growth following a period of high volatility.

Industry association Ameripen announced nine new or re-elected members to its board of directors, representing Amazon, Amcor, General Mills, Kraft Heinz, McDonald’s, Mondelēz, Novolex, Procter & Gamble and Tetra Pak.

The Washington attorney general is investigating the May 26 disaster at the Nippon Dynawave plant in Longview.

The disaster occurred when a tank containing a chemical used in paper production ruptured, releasing more than 500,000 gallons of highly caustic liquid. The disaster killed 11 workers and injured many more, making it one of the deadliest industrial accidents in recent history. 

Graphic Packaging released its 2025 impact report, highlighting that 96% of sold packaging products are designed to be recyclable.

The EU’s End of Life Vehicles Regulation became law, and will enter into force Aug. 13.

July 23

Conor Carlin, former president of the Society of Plastics Engineers, was named president of the Institute of Packaging Professionals.

Waste-to-fuels tech firm Abundia Global Impact Group appointed Keith Berger as chief commercial officer.

Saudi Arabia-headquartered Sabic launched a polycarbonate compound containing 75% PCR, for use in consumer electronics housings and other large structural components.

Avery Dennison received the first-to-market RecyClass Technology Approval for its AD CleanFlake RFID tags.

July 16

The RenewChem consortium commercial-scale recycling project involving Catalyxx, Evonik and Arkema launched in Spain, funded by the Circular Bio-Based Europe Joint Undertaking under the Horizon Europe program.

PureCycle, distributor Mitsui and RM TOHCELLO are partnering to incorporate R-PP into BOPP film for flexible packaging in Japan.

WM is collecting and sorting all PP plastic waste generated at the MLB All-Star game, then sending it to PureCycle in Ohio for processing.

Amcor named Scott Fallon as president of its North America flexibles division, to succeed Larry Weber, who is retiring.

The US Plastics Pact released updated design handbooks for plastic packaging to be reused, recycled or composted within existing and emerging US infrastructure.

Beverage company Primo Brands announced leadership changes to help focus on growth priorities and customer experience.

Volvo Trucks is increasing use of recycled plastics in its new Volvo VNL and VNR heavy-duty trucks, including 75% recycled plastic on the splash shield.

North America’s Alterra, France’s Technip Energies and Finland’s Neste launched Nerea, a modular system for chemical recycling of plastics.

The Maine Department of Environmental Protection is accepting public input through Aug. 14 on conceptual updates to Reasonable Costs for the Handling and Recycling of Electronic Wastes.

Greenchip e-Waste and ITAD Solutions announced its philanthropic Legacy Foundation had invested $10,000 in the Serve and Stay Fredericksburg Fund, a workforce recruitment and retention initiative helping teachers, first responders and public servants establish local roots.

Connecticut‘s right-to-repair law took effect, covering most new consumer electronics and appliances manufactured after July 1.
