The Alliance for Mission-Based Recycling released a new report, “Designing Effective EPR: What to Do About Film & Flexible Packaging,” providing policy suggestions to address the issues relating to flexible and film plastics collected in curbside recycling programs. 

The City of Philadelphia filed a lawsuit alleging that Bimbo Bakeries and SC Johnson, whose products include Ziploc bags, made deceptive claims about the recyclability of single-use plastic film products.

Canadian producer responsibility organization Circular Materials will publish a harmonized material list for recycling for Ontario in 2026, including new materials like coffee cups, toothpaste tubes and black plastic containers.

Automaker Honda opened its new Resource Circularity Center in Ohio, which processes retired equipment, office electronics and vehicle service parts.

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology released its 2025 State of Supply Chain Sustainability report. 

Vancouver-based Metaspectral will receive a combined amount of over Canadian $1 million (US $717,000) from Environment and Climate Change Canada and CleanBC to support the advancement of its AI-driven sorting technology.

EU’s RecyClass launched the first certification scheme focused on traceability for plastic sorting processes.

Technology company TOMRA Recycling acquired the parent company of bag-drop bottle processor Clynk.  

Trex named Prithvi (Prith) Gandhi as CFO effective Oct. 6, and appointed Srikanth Padmanabhan to its board of directors, effective Dec. 1.

News from Keurig Dr Pepper, Novolex and more

Keurig Dr Pepper is acquiring JDE Peet’s, and after the acquisition closes Keurig Dr Pepper will separate into two independent publicly traded companies – one for refreshment beverages and the other solely for coffee. 

Novolex is closing a former Pactiv Evergreen manufacturing facility in Bakersfield, California.

The US Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the National Waste & Recycling Association (NWRA) and the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) announced they had reaffirmed their partnership to improve safety and health for workers in the waste and recycling industries.

The Solid Waste Disposal Authority of Baldwin County, Alabama, has opened the state’s first Center for Hard-to-Recycle Materials (CHaRM), offering residents a staffed convenience center for items not accepted via curbside recycling.

Hauler WM announced that CFO Devina Rankin is planning to retire and David Reed will succeed her.
