Call2Recycle Canada and RLG Systems Canada partnered on a new lithium-ion safety box, which will be distributed to Call2Recycle’s existing collection sites to ship and store damaged, defective or recalled lithium-ion batteries. Call2Recycle also launched its provincial battery recycling program across Alberta with more than 1,100 new drop-off locations.

The National Stewardship Action Council, Solid Waste Association of North America and North American Hazardous Materials Management Association will hold a webinar April 16 on EPR for products that cause fires, including batteries, compressed gas tanks and marine flares. 

The U.S. EPA and Department of Energy on April 7 will host a virtual meeting to kick off the development of an EPR framework for batteries. EPA is also hosting two virtual working sessions on April 24 and June 17 to improve labeling and develop best practices for the collection of batteries weighing 25 pounds or more.
