Call2Recycle released data from its 2021 battery collections report, finding that more than 8.1 million pounds of consumer batteries were collected in the United States for recycling, 3.2% lower than in 2020. There was also a 12.3% increase in lithium-ion collections, which drove an overall 5% increase in total rechargeable collections. 

The Carton Council announced two job changes, with Carla Fantoni moving from vice president of communications to vice president of engagement strategy and Larine Urbina of TetraPak becoming vice president of communications. 

Hygiene and packaging product manufacturer Cascades unveiled its 2022-24 strategic update. 

FCC Environmental Services purchased Texas-based Premier Waste Services, marking its first U.S. acquisition. 

Aluminum recycling company Novelis announced it will spend about $50 million to build a recycling center at its Ulsan Aluminum joint venture in South Korea. 

The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) issued 12 fines to companies in January, including $15,700 to Owens-Brockway Glass Container, $15,700 to the Covanta Marion waste-to-energy plant and $9,600 to Willamette Falls Paper.

Aluminum recycling company Speira signed a definitive agreement to acquire Real Alloy Europe, a European aluminum recycling company, to extend the third-party recycling services it provides to the European aluminum industry. 

The U.S. Department of Energy announced it will spend nearly $3 billion on battery production and recycling plants and technologies to boost domestic manufacturing of the batteries, which are a vital part of federal plans to grow clean energy industries.
