Equipment Spotlight: Fire-rated storage buildings protect against battery fires

With lithium-ion batteries becoming ubiquitous and increasing the risk of fires at recycling facilities, DENIOS is offering Rack Fire Protect buildings to protect staff and assets.

Fire rated for 2 hours at 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit, the structures can be placed inside or outside. They use a fully galvannealed panelized construction and are insulated with fireproof, 5-inch mineral wool panels then painted with Durathane 2-part RAL 9002 white paint for corrosion protection.

Designed in Germany, the buildings are also manufactured in the United States for North American installations. They have adjustable racking for storage flexibility, along with single- or double-tiered designs.

White paint also helps prevent the absorption of sunlight and heating of the external surfaces, better protecting batteries stored inside from external temperatures.

In addition, heating and air conditioning equipment could be added, as could ventilation and monitoring controls with multi-sensor fire detectors and wet or dry fire suppression systems.

The buildings are built in accordance with FM Approval 6049, NFPA, OSHA, EPA-CFR 40, NBCC, NFCC and ETA/21/0642.
