A Canadian foam processing company receives a major injection of capital, and San Antonio hopes fines will get people in the mood to recycle.

Sorting citations: The City of San Antonio will start fining people who put trash in their blue recycling bin. Fox29 reports the fine has been set at $25, but residents will get warnings first.

Polystyrene recycling expansion: A Canadian foam recycling firm, Polystyvert, has received nearly 5 million Canadian dollars ($3.8 million) in capital financing. CNW says Polystyvert will use the money to expand its facilities and equipment.

Textile recycling: A coalition of Canadian nonprofit groups has started an effort to keep old clothing and other textiles out of landfill. According to Triple Pundit, the initiative will organize collection drives and drop-off sites and then turn the items over to Value Village, which will either resell the items or deliver them to other companies for recycle.

Deconstruction over demolition: The City Council in Portland, Ore. unanimously approved an ordinance requiring certain home demolitions to deconstruct instead, diverting 4,000 tons of material each year.

No more curbside recycling: Waste Management has decided to end its curbside recycling service in Beaumont, Texas because of low participation and high contamination rates. According to the Beaumont Enterprise, Waste Management says fewer than 600 residents, out of 118,000, were taking part.
