AMP Robotics announced it’s working with The Happy Beetle, a door-to-door recycling subscription service, to use its AI technology to detect hazardous items in the recycling stream, such as propane tanks, pressurized containers and batteries.

The Canadian Beverage Container Recycling Association (CBCRA) appointed Holly Lafontaine to the role of program director to oversee the startup of CBCRA Ontario.

Compology CEO and co-founder Jason Gates briefed members of the Congressional Recycling Caucus Jan. 23 on the environmental and cost-savings benefits of waste metering and how it can help meet the EPA’s National Recycling Strategy goals.

Aiming to replace single-use plastic with paper or bio-based alternatives, Green Pack Coalition launched Jan. 19, with Ranpak Holdings as a founding member.

The National Stewardship Action Council launched the Stewardship Action Foundation to focus on circular economy educational efforts, starting with a project on “truth in labeling.”

Starting on February 1, 2022, British Columbians can head to their local Return-It collection site to responsibly recycle even more material for a 10-cent deposit refund. Clean and empty ready-to-drink milk and plant-based beverage containers, such as oat, almond, and soy, will now be included in the deposit system at over 170 Return-It collection sites across B.C. This is the result of a Government of B.C. regulation change, implemented through the CleanBC Plastic Action Plan.

The Sanitation Foundation, the official nonprofit partner of the New York City Department of Sanitation, announced two school sustainability initiatives: Follow Your Waste, a game that shows kids the journey of trash through the city, and the Follow Your Waste Prize, which gives up to $1,000 to schools who participate in the game and commit to a waste diversion project.

UBQ Materials announced it’s a finalist in the Speculative Design category of the South by Southwest Innovation Awards for developing a waste-based 3D filament, after announcing a $170 million round of funding led by TPG Rise last month. South by Southwest winners will be announced March 14, 2022.
