As of July 1, manufacturers of covered battery-embedded products must comply with new requirements in California, as part of the state’s expansion of its long-running e-scrap program.
Manufacturers must determine which of their products fit the definition as described by SB 1215, as well as which products are exempt. July 1 each year is also the deadline for manufacturers to notify retailers selling their products in California which devices are subject to the battery-embedded device recycling fee, though it does not need to specify the fee amount. Manufacturers must also send copies of the notices to CalRecycle via email.
