Canadian chemical company unveils 100% recycled PE resin

NOVA Chemicals launched a 100% mechanically recycled PE resin for use in films such as shrink, e-commerce, heavy-duty sacks and protective packaging.

Called EX-PCR-NC4, the resin can help converters and brand owners meet sustainability goals, a press release stated, because it contains 100% post-consumer PE and “offers highly versatile design flexibility.”

The PE is sourced from distribution center flexible film, a blend of back-of-store stretch and front-of-store consumer drop-off, according to the press release, and commercial quantities of the resin are currently available.

Alan Schrob, NOVA Chemicals’ mechanical recycling director, called the product a win-win because it “provides converters and brand owners with a more sustainable packaging solution without compromising overall quality or strength” and diverts plastic from landfills.

The resin is also designed to be recycled again, “a true demonstration of circularity,” Schrob added.
