Advanced Drainage Systems, one of the largest plastics recycling companies in North America, has acquired its biggest supplier of recycled polypropylene.

Hilliard, Ohio-based Advanced Drainage Systems (ADS) on Dec. 6 announced the acquisition of Jet Polymer Recycling, a privately owned, Fort Payne, Ala.-based company with three plastics recycling facilities. Financial details of the transaction weren’t disclosed.

ADS, a publicly traded manufacturer of plastic piping and other water management products, now has a number of plastics recycling operations under its umbrella. The company owned HDPE reclaimer Green Line Polymers before ADS’ 2019 acquisition of Infiltrator Water Technologies (IWT), which brought Champion Polymer Recycling, a reclaimer of PE, PP and PS, into the fold.

ADS describes itself as the second largest plastics recycling company in North America. It already has five plastics recycling operations under its ownership.

Newly acquired Jet Polymer Recycling is currently the largest recycled PP supplier for IWT, according to the press release. Its three plastics recycling facilities are located in Alabama and Georgia.

“This acquisition advances our strategic priority to expand the ADS Recycling capabilities to support future growth, while also underpinning ADS’ commitment to environmental sustainability,” Scott Barbour, president and CEO of ADS, stated in the press release. “Through this transaction, we secure high-quality recycled plastic to leverage in the fast growing on-site septic wastewater business, as well as a platform to obtain additional high-density polyethylene in the southern region of the United States, which remains a key growth area for both ADS and Infiltrator.”

According to the company’s latest sustainability report, 51% of the plastic feedstock purchased by ADS in the 2020 fiscal year was post-consumer or post-industrial material. That came out to 560 million pounds of recycled plastic, mostly HDPE and PP. During the prior fiscal year, 47% of the company’s plastic feedstock was from recycled sources.
