Post-industrial scrap plastic recycling company Mumford Industries is producing emergency ponchos to help protect health care workers from the coronavirus.
The company, based in Ninety Six, S.C., recycles millions of pounds of post-industrial plastic each month. A local newspaper article talks about its latest effort to produce personal protective equipment (PPE).
“Talking to a friend of mine – he was explaining the situation with health care workers, and he expressed to me that, ‘George, you don’t really understand. Health care workers are wearing trash bags,'” George Mumford, president of Mumford Industries, stated in a video about the effort. “And at that moment it kind of dawned on all of us that, ‘Hey, the technology that we just put in could be pivoted and we could certainly make something better than a trash bag.”
The 24-year-old company has about 20 staff members.
