Give recycling your all, says PepsiCo

PepsiCo has unveiled a new marketing campaign aimed at boosting morale and support around recycling in the U.S.

Through a recently released commercial, the food and beverage giant is imploring people to “give recycling 100 percent.” The impetus for the ad, according to the video, is that the U.S. bottle and can recycling rate in the U.S. is below 50 percent.

The new campaign is a continuation of PepsiCo’s efforts to increase the country’s beverage container recycling rate to 50 percent by 2018.

In an interview with Sustainable Brands, PepsiCo revealed it has collected over 125 million bottles and cans since 2010 by setting up more than 4,000 recycling bins and kiosks located at colleges, gas stations, grocery stores and other locations throughout the country. The company has also forged a $5 million partnership with the Nature Conservancy to further promote public space recycling.

In 2014, the company used more than 130 million pounds of food-grade rPET in its packaging.
