National Manufacturing Day nears
By Editorial Staff, Resource Recycling
Hoping to give manufacturers an opportunity to make their case to potential career seekers and recent college graduates, recycling industry groups and related companies are gearing up for the second annual Manufacturing Day.
On Oct. 4, manufacturers from across the country will host a series of events aimed at combating negative perceptions about the industry by explaining "what manufacturing is – and what it isn't," according to the official Manufacturing Day website. A gap in skilled labor has left the sector with approximately 600,000 unfilled manufacturing jobs, despite the industry's average salary of $77,000.
The recycling industry has faced similar obstacles in engaging young people for technical jobs. The Society of the Plastics Industry (SPI) recently joined on as a silver sponsor of Manufacturing Day.
