Waste & Recycling News shuts down its commercial recycling conference
By Editorial Staff, Resource Recycling
Crain Communications, the publisher of Waste & Recycling News, has cancelled a recycling conference set for next month in St. Louis.
The firm's release says that "Crain ceased the print version of Waste & Recycling News with the Aug. 5 issue. The company remains in discussions with potential buyers for all the assets of Waste & Recycling News. However, the Corporate Recycling & Waste Conference will not be held." Further, the firm has not announced a location or dates for its Residential Recycling Conference next spring. The remaining Crain asset in the waste management field is W&RN's digital edition.
The announcement reflects the tough times in a crowded media and conference market. The firm's recycling conferences saw small and declining audiences and its print edition recorded fewer and fewer ads in the past few years. W&RN's editor and publisher have been moved to other positions within Crain, the publisher of numerous business magazines.
The publisher of this newsletter will continue to offer its Resource Recycling Conference. Nearly 500 recycling leaders attended the 2013 conference in Louisville, where the 2014 event was announced for September 16-17 in New Orleans.
