Coke adopts simplified recycling label in UK

Coca-Cola Enterprises, the largest soft drink manufacturer in the U.K. will begin using the On-Pack Recycling Label [1] on its beverage packaging.

The OPRL is a product of the British Retail Consortium and is designed to clearly inform consumers about the composition of packaging products and how best to recycle them. The Coca-Cola, Coke Zero and Diet Coke 500 ml bottles that will initially carry the label, for instance, will be labeled as "Plastic — Widely Recycled," meaning they should be sorted with other plastics and can be collected through curbside recycling service. Coke's announcement makes it the latest addition to the over 135 manufacturers, retailers and corporate partners who have adopted the U.K. label, including rival PepsiCo.

Coca-Cola Enterprises supplies over 160,000 partners with beverage products in the U.K., annually, and the company says the decision will aid it in accomplishing its goal of incorporating at least 25-percent recycled content into its bottles.
