A trio of plastics companies in North Carolina has received significant recycling grant funding from the state.

Blow Molded Solutions, Plastics Materials, Inc. and Verity Recycling were each awarded a 2014 Recycling Business Development Grant Award. The grants, announced by the N.C. Recycling Business Assistance Center, were distributed among 32 companies in the state and totaled more than $800,000.

The plastics companies more than matched their award totals in 2014 by pledging to put up an additional $1.7 million to be spent on a variety of recycling projects in the Tar Heel State.

Blow Molded Solutions received $20,262 and invested another $20,263 to put toward a new silo to store post-consumer HDPE for use in recycled products; Plastic Materials, Inc. grabbed $30,000 and contributed $28,613 to purchase equipment to "process contaminated plastic scrap materials" in Lowell County; and Verity Recycling, with $40,000 in grant money and more than $70,000 in additional company funds, will be working on adding a granulator and elutriation system for processing mixed rigid plastics.

The three plastics-centric projects are expected to create 16 jobs, while a combined 84 jobs will be added as a result of the 2014 recycling grants.
