A new photography project funded by Glad tracks the waste generated by eight American families. Portraits of each family are juxtaposed by a backdrop of the week's trash, recyclables and food waste. An accompanying write-up details just how much of the material was salvageable and how much was destined for the landfill.

This weekend the DEA will be hosting its eighth prescription drug take back day. With more than 5,600 collection sites throughout the U.S., the DEA and numerous partners hope to outperform last year's strong collection totals, which reached 324 tons of pills.

About seven out of 10 U.S. adults aren't aware of their car battery recycling options, a new study shows. The study, commissioned by Johnson Controls, found that 71 percent of respondents think batteries can only be dropped off at "special recycling centers."
