PetroChem Wire: Recycled polystyrene prices continue to weaken
By Editorial Staff, Resource Recycling
HIPS regrind prices held in late July at mid-month levels, but overall recycled PS prices for the month were 1-2 cents per pound lower for most grades than in June, continuing a weakening price trend that began in early 2013.
Black flake HIPS was 54 cents per pound delivered to Midwest locations in late July, down around a penny from June levels. On repro material, GPPS natural fell 2 cents from end-June to end-July, with late July offers at 51 cents seeing little buying interest. U.S. Gulf prices for spot prime HIPS started July at $1.01 per pound, but slipped to 99 cents per pound in the second half of the month.
