Sims now making hard-drive-destruction house calls

Sims Recycling Solutions says equipment-mobility advances are allowing the company to bring more hard drive processing capabilities out to customer locations.

The electronics reuse and recycling arm of Sims Metal Management announced it's able to destroy more than 1,200 hard drives per day on-site. Customers can witness hard drives being shredded on-site, and video copies of the destruction can be made available by request. Shredded outputs are then transported to Sims facilities for further processing.

"Companies are finding the need more than ever to destroy higher volumes of data," said Sean Magann, vice president of Sims Recycling Solutions, Americas. "This mobile shredding equipment will provide us with the capability to process higher volumes in a shorter amount of time without sacrificing the security of information stored on hard drives.”
