Scrap plastic keeping European floods at bay and looking for plastics recycling guidance in Uganda.

A European plastics recycling consortium called Prime (Plastic Recyclate Impression Moulding Engineering) has announced it has built a test barrier panel out of mixed scrap plastics for use as a flood prevention wall. The group announced that environmental testing of the panels is underway and further production trials will involve the manufacture of a final prototype flood barrier. The results of the project, which will include a life cycle analysis, will be announced later in 2013.

According to AllAfrica, Ugandan plastics recycling firms are looking for guidance from the government on what plastics they are allowed to recycle. "There is a lot of uncertainty because there is no clear policy governing the plastic industry and we can't remain competitive," Musa Mugeera, the head of Luuka Plastics Limited told the online news agency.
