Arrow Electronics, Inc. has been named the preferred partner in a new asset retirement service offered by Lenovo.

Lenovo, which market research firm IDC expects to eclipse HP to become the world's leading PC OEM this year, will offer a the new asset retirement service to North American enterprise customers this year. The service will be offered at the point of sale of new enterprise assets and will be accessible through an online system where customers can estimate the value of their IT assets, arrange pickups for devices, and view reports on the end-of-life management of the assets. The service will eventually roll out to Lenovo's global enterprise partners.

Arrow, which offers secure data erasure, verified data destruction, logistics, and other downstream processing services, has embarked on an aggressive acquisition strategy, buying several electronics recycling firms over the past two years, including Redemtech, Converge, TechTurn, Intechra and Global Link Technology.

"This innovative service reflects Lenovo's commitment to provide affordable, convenient and strategic solutions for our customers," said Bill DeLong, Lenovo's vice president of global services in a prepared statement. "By replacing ad hoc disposal with a simple, convenient business process, this service enables our business customers to plan ahead for the secure and responsible decommissioning of their electronic assets, while also helping them recoup any residual value through the remarketing of used equipment. Our customers also will enjoy peace of mind knowing their materials will be handled safely and securely by Arrow."
