By Editorial Staff, Resource Recycling
R2 Solutions has released the first draft of its proposed R2:2013 revisions to the electronic recycling certification.
Developed with stakeholder input and review by the R2 Technical Advisory Committee, the revisions aim to clarify and improve on the R2:2008 requirements. Among the changes are clarifications of the definition of focus materials, as well as clarification that R2:2013 only permits import and export of e-scrap containing focus materials that is in compliance with the laws of both the importing and exporting country. Other changes that clarify the role of reuse, refurbishment and EH&S procedures are also included.
A public comment period on the revisions will be in effect until Dec. 16. Aggregated comments will be taken into consideration as the R2 TAC prepares the final document for release next year.
