About 87% of Kraft Heinz’s packaging was recyclable, reusable or compostable in 2022, according to the company’s latest sustainability report. The food and beverage giant’s goal is to use 100% recyclable, reusable or compostable packaging by 2025. In 2021, 84% of its packaging met that criterion.
In its 2023 environmental, social and governance (ESG) report, Kraft Heinz noted that “while we are proud of our accomplishment, we are cognizant of the road ahead to convert the remaining part of our portfolio.”

The company also reported using 1.2 million metric tons of packaging in 2022. Of the total amount of packaging, 21% (by weight) was made from recycled and/or renewable materials, down one percentage point from 2021. In terms of total waste to landfill, Kraft Heinz reported waffling numbers for the past few years, with 2021’s total weight (in metric tons) dipping to 82,617 from 92,856 in 2020 but then jumping back up to 89,296 in 2022.
