1 | Specialized seeks to recycle carbon fiber bike frames


As more bicycle manufacturers abandon steel and aluminum in favor of carbon fiber to build their products, one company is launching a program to collect and recycle the material known for its strength and light weight.

The City of Toronto has issued a RFQ to procure 2, 3 or 4 contracts to provide processing services for a total of up to 190,000 tonnes of Single-Stream Recyclable Materials (SSRM) at facilities owned and/or operated by the Contractor over a maximum period of 19 months. The RFQ is available here.

The volume of plastic scrap exported in September, at 450.928 million pounds, was down 7.46 percent from its August figure. When matched against its August 2010 position, however, the volume of exports increased by 7.7 percent.
