2 | RR Conference 2011: Become a certified recycling expert at the 2011 RR Conference

Intriguing efforts have been launched to bring more professionalism to the recycling trade. A variety of groups are now operating professional education programs to train, test and certify recycling managers. So what's the big deal with certification? What would a national standard look like, and how would it help the recycling industry? We've asked three experts to point the way.

John Frederick of the Recycling Organizations of North America will explain how a federally funded initiative is working long and hard to move the industry toward a national certification standard. Jo-Anne St. Godard, the executive director of the Recycling Council of Ontario, will explain that group's new learning model for waste reduction professionals. And Ali Briggs of Resource Recycling will offer an extensive overview of the current certification programs operated by a number of organizations.

Don't miss the 2011 Resource Recycling Conference, to be held August 17-18, at the JW Marriott in Indianapolis, Indiana. For more information, visit www.rrconference.com or click on the banner below.

8 | CORRECTION

In last week's e-newsletter, in a promotional piece for the Resource Recycling Conference, it was stated that milk cartons are not recyclable. Not only are they eminently recyclable, there is an industry group — the Carton Council — that is dedicated to expanding the acceptance of the container in recycling programs around the country.
