2 | RR Conference 2011: Clearing up packaging confusion

Packaging messaging regarding recyclability is too often unclear, lacking specificity, or just plain wrong. In addition, data collection on access to recycling is simply not consistent or coordinated. By taking a harmonized approach to communication between industry and consumers, the Labeling for Recovery Project seeks to clear things up. This timely project, branded in August as "Restart the Cycle," is getting ready to launch a national pilot, which will include a website with information and guidance for consumers and other stakeholders. Join Anne Bedarf of the Sustainable Packaging Coalition as she offers breaking updates on this project.

Don't miss the 2011 Resource Recycling Conference, to be held August 17-18, at the JW Marriott in Indianapolis, Indiana. For more information, visit www.rrconference.com or click on the banner below.

3 | SERDC webinar looks at the economics of recycling

The Southeast Recycling Development Council (SERDC) will be holding webinar this week on the economic impact of recycling in the region that could prove to be useful to advocates seeking to sway businesses and policy makers to invest in the industry.

The webinar titled "The Economics of Recycling: Putting Recycling's Positive Economic Numbers to Work" will be held on May 26 and will include speakers that will provide numbers on the economic benefits of recycling that could be helpful for advocates seeking to influence policy, state procedure and business developments specific to the region. Geared towards individuals who work in the industry as well as politicos interested in the topic, the webinar will also cover the regional demand for recycled feedstock and the efforts to ensure that elected officials understand that community collection programs can help fuel local jobs and manufacturing.

10 | RR Conference heads to Indianapolis

Recycling program success relies on understanding and navigating recycling markets. Fortunately, the Resource Recycling Conference will feature presentations on the past trends, present prices and future outlooks for a variety of recycling markets. Whether your firm or program focuses on aluminum, plastic, glass, ferrous, paper, or all of the above, experts and market analysts in each respective field will offer their take on what to expect in 2011, 2012 and beyond. The Resource Recycling Conference will offer invaluable information from experts that can't be missed.

With such exciting sports, nightlife and culture, Indianapolis is a natural location for the Resource Recycling Conference and offers attendees a chance to unwind after a busy day.

"The Resource Recycling Conference far exceeded my expectations in two ways," said an attendee at last year's inaugural conference. "First and foremost, the people who attended were present and engaged. They were asking excellent questions and were at the conference to seek answers to difficult questions. The level of discussion was very high, both in the session and in the halls. Second, I had a lot of fun! It was a 'work hard, play hard' group and I can't wait to come back."

For more information on the Resource Recycling Conference, which will be held August 17-18 at the JW Marriott in Indianapolis, visit www.rrconference.com or click the banner below.

Don't forget to make your hotel reservations by July 27 to receive the special conference rate of $159 plus taxes. Hotel reservations can be made directly with the JW Marriott Indianapolis by calling 800-266-9432 or online.
