2 | Lightning strikes twice at the 2011 Resource Recycling Conference


Building off the fascinating sneak peek at last year's Lightning Round, come hear English Bird present on how rural recycling will flourish in New Mexico with the help of federal stimulus money. 3 | CEA seeks to triple e-scrap recycling


Backed by some of the world's largest electronics manufacturers, retailers and a host of elected officials, the Consumer Electronics Association has unveiled an ambitious plan to triple the amount of electronics recycling in the U.S. by 2016.

The City of Toronto has issued a RFP to procure a contract to provide processing services for 140,000 tonnes per year of Single-Stream Recyclable Materials (SSRM) at one or more facilities located in Ontario and owned and/or operated by the Contractor. The RFP is available here.


4 | Georgia yard debris ban rollback rolled back


Environmental groups and the composting industry in Georgia are celebrating after successfully pushing back against a legislative measure that would have rolled back a disposal ban on lawn clippings and similar materials. Earlier this week, the Georgia State Senate amended a bill that would have relaxed restrictions that keep grass leaves and brush from municipal solid waste landfills.

5 | Recycling gets its own stamp


The U.S. Postal Service today announced a new line of stamps exhorting customers to "go green" and put the proverbial stamp on sustainability. The USPS today issued a series of 16 stamps, each suggesting small environmentally-friendly actions — including recycling and reusing shopping bags — in a ceremony which included a three-wheeled electric mail delivery vehicle dropping off indigenous trees "symbolic of USPS delivering a greener America," according to a press release announcing the stamps.
